Romana Schmalisch - Dance for a Triangle

After the end of Romana Schmalisch’s long-term Mobile Cinema tour, which brought her to more than 25 places, the artist now returns to the starting point of the project at uqbar projectspace (2008) with the mobile site-specific exhibition, Dom Kino (House of Cinema) as a part of her new series Mobile Exhibition.
The Mobile Cinema, which came to life only through the movement to a different place and through the live performances by the artist, was the starting point for an examination of the ephemeral moment and the possibilities of its fixation within an exhibition. How can different forms of models be developed that may reflect and visualise this moment of movement and the fleetingness of a performance diagrammatically without resorting to classical forms of documentation?
On the occasion of the finissage, Romana Schmalisch will present a brief slide lecture, Dance for a Triangle (in German language), that draws a parallel to dance notations. In contrast to music, an authoritative form of notation does not exist for dance, which only emerges from, and can only be experienced in, the performance. Both the systems of notation as well as the symbolic elements have changed during the epochs.
Based on graphical notations that can refer not only to dance but also to everyday movements, the slide lecture will revolve around conceptions of the body, space and time. During the lecture, the symbolic dance scripts, which could indeed be realised as a performance, will, step by step, be transformed into free architectural constructions.

Nach dem Ende ihrer Tour mit dem Mobile Cinema, die sie zu mehr als 25 Orten führte, kehrt Romana Schmalisch nun mit der mobilen, ortsspezifischen Ausstellung Dom Kino (Haus des Kinos) als Teil ihrer neuen Ausstellungsreihe Mobile Exhibition an den Ausgangspunkt des Projekts in den Projektraum uqbar (2008) zurück.
Das Mobile Kino, welches erst durch die Bewegung zu einem anderen Ort hin und durch die Liveauftritte der Künstlerin zum Leben erweckt wird, war der Anlass, sich mit dem Moment des Flüchtigen und den Möglichkeiten seiner Fixierung innerhalb einer Ausstellung auseinander zu setzen. Inwieweit können hierfür verschiedene Modellformen gefunden werden, die losgelöst von einer klassischen Dokumentation diesen Moment der Bewegung und das Vergängliche einer Performance in verschiedenen Entwurfsmodi widerspiegeln und visualisieren?
Anlässlich der Finissage wird Romana Schmalisch in einem kurzen Diavortrag, Tanz für ein Dreieck (in deutscher Sprache), eine Parallele zu Tanznotationen ziehen. Für den Tanz, der erst durch die Aufführung entsteht und erfahrbar wird, gibt es im Gegensatz zur Musik keine verbindliche Notationsform. Sowohl die Systematik der Notierungen wie die Zeichenelemente wandelten sich mit den Epochen.
In dem Diavortrag geht es anhand von grafischen Notationen, die sowohl für den Tanz, aber auch für alltägliche Bewegungen verwendet werden können, um die Vorstellung von Körper, Raum und Zeit. Zeichen von Tanzschriften, die durchaus tänzerisch umsetzbar wären, wandeln sich während des Vortrags nach und nach zu freien architektonischen Konstruktionen.
