Green on the Mountain is the first solo exhibition of the Japanese artist Midori Mitamura in Berlin. In her work the artist explores the infinite possibilities of memory and record. She conceives her installations as a drama into which people can get involved.
Starting point for the exhibition at uqbar is a found black and white photograph of a bygone era. It shows people at their leisure in a mountain landscape, possibly the Alpes. Though the photo came to the artist by chance, the exhibition appears as a joyful hommage to family or friends. Displayed are moments and memories which have long since passed. Through the suggestive atmosphere of the installation with photos, objects, green light and sound, the viewer may imagine the people's pasts, brought to life in our time.

Midori Mitamura, born 1964 in Aichi/Japan, lives and works in Tokyo. Green on the Mountain was part of the artist's exhibition in 2006 at the Secession inVienna.

Green on the Mountain ist die erste Einzelausstellung der japanischen Künstlerin Midori Mitamura in Berlin. In ihren Arbeiten untersucht Midori Mitamura die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten von Erinnerung und deren Aufzeichnung. Sie begreift ihre Installationen als Drama, an dem die Zuschauer teilnehmen können.
Ausgangspunkt der Präsentation bei uqbar ist eine alte Schwarz-Weiß-Fotografie, die ihr ein Bekannter vom Flohmarkt mitbrachte. Das Foto zeigt Menschen in ihrer Freizeit an einem nicht näher definierten Ort in den Bergen, möglicherweise den Alpen. Obwohl der Bezug der Künstlerin zu dem Foto ein zufälliger ist, entsteht in der Ausstellung der Eindruck einer fröhlichen Hommage an Familie oder Freunde. In der Installation, in der die Künstlerin mit Fotos, Objekten, Sound und grünem Licht eine suggestive Atmosphäre erzeugt, wird die mögliche Vergangenheit der Personen in unserer Zeit lebendig.

Midori Mitamura, geb. 1964 in Aichi/Japan, lebt und arbeitet in Tokyo. Green on the Mountain war 2006 Teil einer Ausstellung von Midori Mitamura in der Secession in Wien.
Die Ausstellung bei uqbar wird kuratiert von Michiko Ogura und unterstützt von SHISEIDO und dem EU-Japan Fest.
