Vytautas Michelkevičius - Residency as an Agent of (Critical) Tourism for Curators and Artists
Talk and screening, Tuesday, March 26, 2013, 7p.m.
Lo-Be, Schererstraße 7, 13347 Berlin-Wedding
Following up on the issues of Transient Spaces - The Tourist Syndrome and its Summer Camp in Palanga uqbar is organizing in cooperation with Lo-Be projectspace a talk by Lithuanian curator Vytautas Michelkevičius on hosting and displacing atNida Art Colony in Lithuia
Nida Art Colony is an interdisciplinary and experimental department of Vilnius Academy of Arts with international artists-in-residence programme, which hosts ~ 50 artists per year from 1 to 4 months, mostly with grants, and an education as well as a workshop centre. It is located remotely (5 hours’ drive from Vilnius) in the forest next to the sandy beach of the Baltic Sea. Living and working at a touristic and UNESCO World Heritage site raises a lot of questions: How to be discursive and critical in a resort on the Baltic Sea? How do artists develop their sited practices in a remote location far from the openings-bars-curators-meetings context? The talk by Vytautas Michelkevičius will focus on question like these and the forthcoming Inter-format symposium on critical tourism, site-specificity and the post-romantic condition in May 2013.
